UPDATED: Saturday (Jan. 30), 11 am: Funeral for Marie Serredell (1924-2021)
MABLETON–The funeral for long-time parishioner Marie Serredell (1924-2021) will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 am. Please pray for the repose of her soul, and for the comfort of her family.
Oct. 4, 1924 – Jan. 19, 2021
From an obituary provided by her family:
Marie E. "Francis" Serredell of Elma, Washington, passed away with her son by her side peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday morning, Jan. 19, 2021. She was born in Chillicothe, Missouri, to Joseph Johnston Cornett and Martha Ellen Trimbel Cornett on October 4, 1924. Out of 12 siblings, she was the only surviving.
She grew up on a farm in Grand Pass, Missouri, and noted many times her mother prepared meals for 18 people on a wood stove to be shared on a trestle table. They had livestock, chickens, and mules to plow the lower 40 acres of bottom land. Her father owned the local Shell gas and grocery store and was also a justice of the peace for the town.
She married Robert John Serredell, Sr., in 1948. He was in the Coast Guard and after their Dec. 2, 1948, wedding, they deployed to his first assignment in Ketchikan, Alaska. At age 60, he died after 38 years of marriage in 1986.
Having been a Baptist most of her life, she attended her son's reception into the Catholic Church in 1986. Two years after moving to Georgia in 2005, she approached one of the priests at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Mableton, Georgia, and requested instruction in the Faith.
Having suffered a stroke that left her bedridden a couple of years ago, she bore her suffering while praying daily rosaries, reciting the Divine Mercy chaplet, and watching the Masses on EWTN daily.
She is survived by her son Robert J. Serredell, Jr., of Mableton; daughter Martha Jo Oliver and granddaughter Serra Marie of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Linda Marie and son-in-law Donald Eugene Willis II, and grandson Donald E. Willis III of Anchorage, Alaska; Angela Marie Willis of Elma, Washington and great-granddaughter Hailey Marie Carlton of Olympia, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Young Adults visit Amicalola Falls
MABLETON–Juventutem Atlanta, the parish’s young adult group, visited beautiful Amicalola Falls today for a hike and a picnic. The group gathered at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in the morning for Mass, then carpooled to the state park. After hiking to the top of the falls on the well-maintained trail, they enjoyed a picnic lunch.
Juventutem Atlanta is part of an international organization of young adults who attend the Traditional Latin Mass. All young people ages 18 to 35–regardless of which parish they attend or even which religion they have–are welcome to attend the groups monthly activities.
